It is a journey through their ancestral lands and they are the indigenous inhabitants of this region. These Tamang and Sherpa communities have lived their life in the region's challenging mountain environments and have a deep connection with the landscapes.
The people practice Tibetan Buddhism and have a rich cultural history. They have their own language, distinctive architecture, colorful festivals, and very warm hospitality with a big smile on their face. Our Gosaikunda Lake trip starts with a 6/7 hour scenic drive to Dunche Bazaar. Depending on the time we get to Dhunche we will start our first-day hike to Deurali. This first-day hike cruises through the beautiful forest setting of Pine, Oak, Maple, and Rhododendron. Gradually ascending via Shin Gompa or Chandanbari, we enter into the land of the Red Pandas.
After an overnight stay at a beautiful and quiet settlement of Deurali, we will ascend further towards the basic settlement of Laurebina. Laurebina is very popularly known as the "Ultimate View Point". The panoramic mountain vistas this small settlement has to offer are simply magical.
The next morning after breakfast we will slowly hike to the Holy Gosaikunda Lake. We will take it slow and steady since we are heading to an alpine region at 4380 meters. Eventually, we will get to our destination, the most thrilling glacial lakes with the most incredible view. The Gosaikunda appears as spiritual as it has been described as having mystical significance.
Over the years this Gosaikunda has become one of the sacred pilgrimage sites for Shamans, the traditional witch doctors, as well as many Hindu and Buddhist devotees.
Overnight at this mystical lake is something so special that it is certainly once in a lifetime experience. The next morning we will witness the beautiful sunrise view and saying goodbye to the holy Gosaikunda lake we head back to Dunche. From Dhunche we will finally drive back to Kathmandu.
