This 19-day Gokyo Lake EBC Trek Via Phortse offers a unique opportunity to explore the serene Gokyo Lakes and reach the iconic Everest Base Camp without crossing the challenging Cho La pass. Instead, this trip follows an alternative route via the charming Phorstse Village, providing a different perspective and an unforgettable experience. It's indeed a diversion from the commercial trail that takes you to the less-trodden valley of Gokyo.

It’s an adventure from the very first day. Our adventure begins with a most thrilling flight from Kathmandu to the airport of Lukla. From Lukla, we trek towards Phakding, a picturesque village situated on the banks of the Dudh Koshi River.

Our trek continues to Namche Bazaar, the bustling hub of the Khumbu region. Here, we take a day to acclimatize and explore the local Sherpa culture. Leaving Namche Bazaar behind, we ascend toward the mesmerizing Gokyo Valley. The trail offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and brings us to the tranquil Gokyo Lakes.

This secret valley of Gokyo with a series of magnificent turquoise blue lakes is more of a sacred and sanctified place. It’s a sacred place for both Hindus and Buddhists. During one particular festival season, many Hindus from around the world visit Gokyo to take a holy bath in the lake.

We will spend a couple of days exploring the area, hiking up Gokyo Ri for a spectacular sunrise view of Everest, Cho Oyu, and other Himalayan giants. The turquoise waters of the lakes against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains create a truly magical setting.

The Trail After Gokyo Lake:

Bidding farewell to Gokyo, we head towards Phorstse Village, our alternative route to Everest Base Camp. Moreover, walking to Dingboche from Phortse village through the highly elevated trail is a real highlight. Acclimatization Day at Dingboche is simply phenomenal. The serene landscapes and the warm hospitality of the locals make this part of the trek truly special.

As we approach the final leg of our journey, we trek to the legendary Everest Base Camp. Significantly, being at the base of the world’s highest mountain gives you a great sense of achievement. We also climb Kala Patthar, a viewpoint renowned for its panoramic vistas of Everest, Nuptse, and the Khumbu Glacier.

Our return journey takes us back through Namche Bazaar and Phakding as we make our way toward Lukla.

Soon you land in Kathmandu airport your group leader will be there with the Nepal Pyramids board to greet you and transfer you to the hotel. Despite, the capital city of Nepal certainly being the busiest with hectic traffic it undoubtedly has a strong appeal with local splendor and vigorous activities around, where you can simply relax and take pleasure in the fun of driving through the unfamiliar roads.

    Driving to Manthali in Ramechhap district, Nepal can be an adventurous journey that offers a glimpse of rural life and the scenic beauty of the Nepalese countryside. The road from Kathmandu to Manthali in Ramechhap is a mix of paved and unpaved sections. While some parts are well-maintained, others can be bumpy and rough, especially during the monsoon season. The condition of the roads can vary, and landslides are not uncommon in hilly areas. The drive takes you through picturesque landscapes, with terraced fields, lush forests, and traditional villages dotting the route. It's an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of Nepal.

      The early morning 20-minute thrilling flight to Lukla. 3/4 hours easy walk to Phakding on the legendary trekking trail through the cultured Sherpa villages with its exceptional beauty and the view of stunning landscape, deep valley, and Dudh Koshi gorge is unique.

        Today we will start early for Namche Bazaar, the capital and the Administrative Center of the Khumbu district. It’s more of a luxurious city in the middle of no way in the midst of remoteness and thin air. Despite long hours of walking, it’s far more than just trekking. Give time to adapt your body to thin air. It’s not a matter of proving your physical strength, it’s more about taking pleasure with steady ascend.

            We skip the overcrowded traditional Everest base camp trial and enter into the most beautiful section of Gokyo Valley with the most amazing setting.

This effortless walk into the Himalayan meadow is awe-inspiring. Machchermo, the place of the YETI incident is situated at the foot of Machchermo Peak and is another attraction.

                REST DAY AND ACCLIMATIZATION HIKE:

                In the Everest region, where altitudes soar to staggering heights, acclimatization is a crucial necessity. Acclimatization allows the body to gradually adapt to these diminishing oxygen levels, enabling a safe and successful journey.

                Without proper acclimatization, trekkers and climbers risk falling prey to altitude sickness, a potentially life-threatening condition.

                By allowing the body to adapt to the high altitude environment, acclimatization not only safeguards against altitude sickness but also enhances overall performance and well-being. Trekkers and climbers who are well-acclimatized experience less fatigue, improved sleep, and a heightened sense of alertness.

                  Away from the tree line area, gradual ascent is recommended. Today is another beautiful walk where mountains like Cholatse, Tabuch, and Cho-Oyu unfold before us with a series of turquoise blue lakes.

                    Now is the time for an epic climb to Gokyo Ri, the point to value your dream and the sensational Himalayan vistas all around. The climb is challenging but the view from the top surpasses the wildest imagination. After making historic success to Gokyo Ri, we will descend down for breakfast and descend further down to Machchermo for a more luxurious time in the lower elevation settlement away from the thin air.

                      We retrace our steps back to Dole and Phortse Tenga getting ourselves back to the tree line and it’s pretty wonderful looking back on our effort while descending. After lunch, we take a different trail to the terraced village of Photse with the most amazing setting.

                      • Unlike many other settlements, the terraced village of Phortse is a special of its kind

                        Leaving Phortse we take the high trail, considered to be one of the most beautiful trails with outstanding views of enormous mountains and deep valleys. Dingbuche, situated at the foot of soaring Amadablam Mountain is another attraction.

                        • Chances to witness the musk deer, mountain goat, and different birds
                        • Effortless walk to Pangbuche and a fabulous lunch at Somare village

                          Away from the tree line area, gradual ascent is recommended. Today is another beautiful walk where mountains like Cholatse, Lobuche, and Pumari unfold before us in this contrasting and spectacular landscape

                          • Gradual upwalk in the wide Himalayan meadow is peaceful
                          • Walking up to the memorial plateau with hundreds of memorials built after the memory of people who met with tragedy in different mountains of Everest is remarkable.
                          • Getting to Lobuche a small settlement at the foot of Lobuche Peak is significant.

                            Leaving Lobuche this 3 hours walk to Gorak Shep is out of the ordinary through the rocky moraine undulating trail. Gorak Shep, the spectacular village is surrounded by Pumori (7145 m), Lingtren (6697 m), Nuptse (7745 m), and of course Everest (8848 m).

The climb is challenging but the view from the top surpasses the wildest imagination. After making historic success to Everest Base Camp and Kalapattar, we will descend down to the settlement of Pheriche descending at least 1000 m below.

                                We retrace our steps back to Pangbuche getting ourselves back to the tree line area where you would realize your breathing getting back to normal. It’s pretty wonderful looking back on our effort to Everest base camp from the Tyengbuche ridge. Walk to Namche on a fresh route makes anyone cheerful about their accomplishment.

                                  Since it's our last trekking night we (all ground staff and your Trek Leader) will dine together and the event is followed by entertainment and Tipping.

                                    Sensational flight back to the capital city of Kathmandu.

                                        • DRINKING WATER: Properly filtered and boiled water for drinking is provided each morning and evening. Trekkers are advised to carry reusable water bottles/bladder bags that can hold at least 3 liters.
                                        • GLORIOUS FOOD: All meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) with hot beverages are provided throughout the trek duration.
                                        • TREK LEADER AND ASSISTANT GUIDE: An experienced trek leader holding legitimate licensing leads the group, along with assistant guides based on group size. Groups of 3 or more are typically assigned at least 1 assistant guide.
                                        • PORTERS: The porter to trekker ratio is 1:2 - meaning 1 porter for every 2 trekkers. However, for groups larger than 4 trekkers, an additional porter is provided specifically to assist with hot water supply during the trek.
                                        • STAFF INSURANCE & ALLOWANCES: Insurance coverage, wages, and allowances for all trek staff are included.
