Langtang Legend:
Legend has it that this heavenly valley of Langtang was discovered by a Lama (Buddhist Monk) while he was looking for his runaway yak. It is believed that once upon a time a Lama lost his yak, so he set out to look out for his runaway yak. In search of this yak, the Lama went pretty far into the valley. Surprisingly, he got into the valley which stunned him. He was mesmerized by the serenity and the natural beauty of the place that got him speechless. To him, it was certainly a heaven-like place where the meadows and vibrant hills shone against the pearly white soaring peaks. This is where he found his runaway yak who was happily grazing and enjoying his solitude.
However, after this incident, the monk named the valley 'LANGTANG'. Lantang is a two-syllable world where LANG means 'YAK' and TANG means 'FOLLOW', so Langtang means 'FOLLOW YAK'. Established in 1976, Langtang is the first Himalayan National Park.
As you trek into the region, it opens before us the magical valley, dramatically set landscape, soaring mountains, gorgeous Himalayan meadows, and deep gorges. Regardless of being a reasonably less visited area, trekking here is pleasing. The region of Langtang is home to the RED PANDAS, so no wonder why it is also called the land of Red Pandas. In reality, the Langtang Heritage Trek or the Tamang Heritage Trek is a journey of a lifetime.
Nagthali - the most picturesque ridge:
We spend overnight at the ridge lodge of Nagthali which is a serene escape from the hustle of life. Nagthali (or Nagtali) is a high-altitude viewpoint and it is one of the famous meditation centers used by monks, trekkers, and religious practitioners. The word 'NAG' in Nepali/Tibetan means 'SNAKE' while 'THALI' means 'FLAT LAND' or 'PLATEAU'.
This stunning vantage point is at the height of 3165 m / 10,383 feet and offers spectacular panoramic views of the Langtang range, Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, and Jugal Himal. It has not become a popular place for YOGA and ample yoga treks are organized focusing mainly on Nagthali.
Travelers can enjoy the beauty of the surrounding rhododendron forests and pristine meadows. It is certainly an ideal spot for trekkers to relax, meditate, do yoga, or simply enjoy their solitude with the majestic mountain vistas. The serene ambiance and stunning scenery make Nagthali a memorable and spiritual stop on the Langtang Heritage Trail.
