  • Necessary Permits: Since the Upper Mustang is a restricted area, you will need special permits to enter. These include the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Restricted Area Permit (RAP) issued by the Nepalese government. Further, you would require a TIMS permit too. It is advisable to obtain these permits through a registered trekking agency or guide.
  • Mode of Transportation: The Upper Mustang Jeep Safari is typically conducted using 4WD jeeps or SUVs. The rugged terrain and lack of proper roads in most sections make it necessary to use sturdy vehicles that can handle challenging conditions.

PLEASE NOTE: As per Nepal Government regulations, to access restricted mountain areas like Upper Mustang, we require your original passport and passport-sized photos to swiftly secure the Special Trekking Permit. This document must be temporarily submitted to the Nepal Immigration Department. It is a golden ticket to unseen vistas and untouched valleys away from the maddening crowd. So, we will be collecting these documents upon your arrival at the hotel.

We will wake up quite early this morning to catch a flight to Jomsom, the district headquarters of Mustang. This short flight takes you through the world's deepest Kali Gandaki Gorge with the glorious view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri which is exceptional.

Today we drive high up into the cliffs and wide valleys with barren and arid surroundings with green villages in the middle that appear more like a mirage which is simply incredible. Driving through the unbelievable roadway via Syangbuche and Ghami we get to Tsarang, the 'Land of Chortens". This roadway marks the history and legend of the Indian saint Padmasambhava (750-810 AD), the founder of Tibetan Buddhism who created a fusion of Buddhism with the original Shamanistic religion of Tibet called Bon – whose influence upon the Indian Buddhism makes Tibetan Buddhism so fascinating.

Today's drive through undulating roadways going over a few intriguing passes is remarkable. The tremendous canyons with their unusual color that opens out is extraordinary. In this bizarre the farming fields with rich red buckwheat and brilliant green willows and the south view offering you a panorama of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Tilicho Peak, and Yakawa Kang add up to its magnificence. Finally, we get to the plateau of Lo Monthang, ‘The Capital city’ of Mustang. The fabled walled city of Lo. Lo Manthang the capital city of Mustang contains about 150 houses and has some of the largest and finest Tibetan Buddhism Gompas in Nepal. The city itself is absolutely fascinating place with four major ancient Monasteries which are impressive and an enormous 14th-century palace imposing a 4-story building in the center of the city.

Today’s Jeep Safari excursion is in the valley of Chhosar which was opened to the outside world only a few years ago. Today's excursion includes - a tour of the ancient cave that has about 44 compartments and gives you the history of prehistoric human settlements - The next attraction is Nyphu cave monastery built in the high cliff wall that dates back to 14th century

These monasteries hold exquisite paintings that are valuable and the restoration has been going on for ages to repair the washed-off paintings.

Leaving the ancient walled city of Lo-Manthang we retrace our path driving towards Tsarang and eventually get to yet another stunning settlement of Syangbochen. As you drive the already driven path you will witness all the missed out views where you can simply stop for pictures.

We Drive the same roadway back to Jomsom. This morning we start early to avoid the tough Mustang wind that usually triggers before 10 am.

We take an early morning flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. We fly right into the deepest gorge in the world, Kali Gandaki with a striking view of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
