Mani Rimdu Festival:

Every year there is a festival at Tenboche Monastery to honor the Guru Rimpoche or Guru Padmasambhava. This extended festival is popularly known as the Mani Rimdu Festival. This event is now considered one of the biggest annual events in the Khumbu Region.

Following the Tibetan Lunar calendar, this Mani Rimdu event falls around October-November. Every year thousands of national and international tourists including the locals come to witness this event. If you are trekking to Tengboche around this time, advance booking for accommodation is highly recommended.

This vibrant and elaborate festival features colorful masked dances, religious ceremonies, and performances. It is believed to bring blessings, good fortune, and peace to the region.

Best Season to Trek:

The traditional season that has been going on for ages in Nepal for trekking is Spring and Autumn. These two historical seasons are considered ideal for doing the Tengboche Monastery Trek.

Spring Season (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are said to deliver great weather with clear skies, unhindered mountain views, and moderate temperatures.

However, these days Winer Trekking in Nepal is getting really trendy. We are witnessing an unusual weather pattern in Nepal as Climate Change is reshaping the Trekking Season Pattern. This is the reason why, now you can trek to the Everest Region even in winter and it will deliver you the most beautiful weather. The only challenge will be the chill factor which can always be dealt with proper gear.

Altitude Sickness Awareness:

Since altitude sickness is reported above 2500 meters there is a potential risk of AMS while doing Tenboche Monastery Trek. Be aware of the symptoms of altitude sickness (AMS). Acclimatize properly by taking rest days in Namche Bazaar and ascend gradually. Follow the guidelines of your Trekking Group Leader. Stay hydrated and take Diamon over the counter.

Read the following blog post regarding prevention and medicine to carry while trekking in Nepal. Read - Prevention of High-Altitude Sickness while trekking in Nepal and essential Medicine to carry while trekking in Nepal.

Accommodation and Food:

There is no point of doubt that accommodation in the Everest Region would be something like basic. The Everest region is so commercialized that you have an option of luxury to comfortable teahouse accommodation. The availability of teahouses depends on your preference and how willing are you to pay for the comfort.

Much like Accommodation, the variety of menu items in these teahouses is surprising. You can enjoy both local and international food and in most lodges food quality and taste are better than in many restaurants in Thamel.

Travel Insurance:

  • Ensure you have travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking and potential emergency evacuations.

Cash and ATM Access:

  • When it comes to carrying money, the convenience at Everest region is astonishing. You can use your cards for payment but the transaction charges can be high. However, trekkers can also carry enough cash (Exchanged Nepali Rupees) to last the duration of the trek if they don't want to take the hassle of extra charges over their cards. In fact, cash local currency is worth it if you are buying souvenirs, paying for a cup of coffee, or tipping your trekking staff.

Responsible Trekking:

  • Since Everest is a dominant trait of Tibetan Buddhist culture we request you to respect local customs and the environment. Carry out all waste and litter, and avoid single-use plastic items, especially mineral water bottles.
