Pokalde Peak Climbing Overview
Pokalde Peak Climbing in the region of Everest is a less technical but very exciting peak climbing adventure. This adventure is perfect for beginners who are looking to explore the Everest region and at the same time want to go higher than Everest Base Camp's altitude. If you are looking for your first Himalayan climb, Pokalde Peak Climbing will be a great option to test your endurance.
This beautiful Himalayan adventure combines the iconic Everest Base Camp trek with 5,806 m peak climbing. The Pokalde Peak Climbing trip offers an opportunity to experience high-altitude trekking and the challenge of climbing a peak.
The journey begins with a scenic flight to Lukla Airport and a trek through traditional Sherpa villages. After acclimatizing at Namche Bazaar, we will slowly head towards the picturesque village of Phortse. Once again, we will acclimatize in Dingboche and trek to Everest Base Camp. We will retrace our trail back to Lobuche and then progress to the remote valley towards the Pokalde climbing area via Kongma La Pass.
After reaching Pokalde Base Camp, we will prepare for the summit attempt. Your climbing guide will also perform a demonstration on climbing equipment. This climbing clinic course is crucial as the climb involves steep, rocky terrain that may require some techniques.
Then we will head to High Camp (Attack Camp at 5,000m). The next day we will start early and summit Pokalde Peak. The remarkable views from the summit include Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Ama Dablam, and the rest of the surrounding mountains.
The Pokalde Peak Climbing route is unique as it makes a small loop that combines two different valleys of Everest and Imja Valley. After Namche, you skip the commercial route and take a less crowded trail to Phortse. Once you are done with EBC, you will take a peaceful, remote route crossing the Khumbu Icefall towards Kongma La Pass. The return journey through Chhukung and Tengboche is entirely different and mesmeric.
Pokalde Peak Climbing is a less technically demanding climbing peak and is best suited for first-timers. However, due to the high altitude and terrain, it will still demand careful preparation, appropriate equipment, acclimatization, professional guides, and favourable weather.

Pokalde Peak Climbing Difficulty
Pokalde Peak Climbing is best described as a moderate-to-strenuous adventure. Though Pokalde is a less technical peak, the journey involves several days of trekking at high altitude with a challenging mountain pass and a mountain climb.
The route includes Everest Base Camp, which is already considered a strenuous trek. EBC trek itself combines long walking days, steep ascents and descents, and being at higher altitude in the thin air with less oxygen saturation. Moreover, the Kongma La Pass is less traveled and considered quite technical in comparison to Cho La and Renjo La Pass. So to say Kongma La is certainly a demanding part of the journey because of the altitude and rough terrain.
On the other hand, the Pokalde Peak climb presents a different challenge. Pokalde Peak is not like a hike to a Kala Patthar viewpoint. The ascent can involve steep rock, loose stones, exposed sections, and ice that would require appropriate climbing gear.
Nepal Pyramids designs the itinerary that would make enough space for proper acclimatization days that will help you adjust to altitude.
You do not necessarily need to be an experienced mountaineer to consider Pokalde Peak. However, if you are a first-timer, we highly recommend that you be physically and mentally prepared and ready to challenge your limitations with confidence.
Our Guide's Tips and Notes on Pokalde Peak Climbing
1. Trail Conditions: What the Map Does Not Tell You
A trekking map shows you the route, but it cannot tell you every little detail and exactly how you would feel on a particular day. Remember that our walking time depends on our pace, altitude, terrain, weather, etc.
The approach to Pokalde includes EBC, Kala Patthar, and crossing of Kongma La, which can be demanding. Do not rush; take it slowly and allow yourself enough time to breathe normally.
2. Accommodation: Expectations vs. Reality
Accommodation facilities change as you go higher into the Everest region. The Pokalde climbing section requires camping, where the food and rest of the facilities can be basic.
Hot showers, charging facilities, Wi-Fi, and other services may be limited or unavailable. Also remember that all these facilities in the Everest region teahouses are subject to additional charges.
3. Altitude: Walking Slowly Is Part of the Plan
Please, we request you not to follow the social media instructions, as at high altitude, everything can feel much harder than expected. Take regular breaks, maintain your body with adequate fluids, eat properly, and tell your guide if anything.
Your life is more important than anything else, so do not ignore any symptoms.
4. The Summit Is Not Guaranteed
Mountain weather can change quickly. Several factors in the mountains may affect the climb. So keep note, that your guide may delay or cancel a summit attempt if conditions are unsafe.
A successful expedition means making good decisions, not reaching the summit at any cost.
