1. Difficulty: Which Trek Is Harder?

FactorManaslu Circuit TrekEverest Base Camp Trek
Max. AltitudeLarke Pass - 4,106m / 16,751 feetKala Patthar - 5,545m / 18,192 feet
No. of Days Trekking10 - 14 Days14 - 16 Days
Daily Walking Hours6 - 8 hours5 - 7 hours
Trail conditionRemote, rough, and rockywell-established, stone steps - other than BC
Steepest SectionsLarke Pass, both ascent and descentNamche Hill, Thugla Pass, and Kala Patthar

To conclude, the Manaslu Circuit is physically harder. The trail is rougher, and the facilities are basic, including the teahouses. The Larke Pass descent (1,400m down in one day) is brutal on the knees.

On the other hand, Everest Base Camp is higher in terms of altitude, where your sleeping elevation is (5,180m at Gorak Shep). The chances of AMS or High Altitude Sickness are more common on EBC.

Our clients like Hoi Yee Chan (Sugus) from Hong Kong, Jenny Chua from Singapore, and Jeroen Demeester from Belgium have done both Manaslu and EBC and have different views regarding these destinations - (Sources: Nepal Pyramids Clients Review)

2. Crowds: Solitude vs Busy

FactorsManaslu Circuit TrekEverest Base Camp Trek
Daily Trekkers (peak season)50 - 100300 - 500 +
Trail Feelingquiet, fewer travelersSuper Busy, very lively
Teahouses Not always full (at base camp sometimes)Fully booked (above Namche)
Solo Traveler FriendlySolo travelers can get a permit now (2026), but independent traveling is limitedEasy to go solo

To conclude, Manaslu Circuit Trek wins when it comes to solitude experience. You will have the privilege of walking for hours into the serene valley without seeing another trekker. However, on EBC, you literally need to queue to cross the bridge, walk the trail, or take a picture at Base Camp or Kala Patthar.
